Commercial compliance pack

This page sets out what a Mr Trampoline commercial project compliance pack contains, and — just as importantly — what it does not. It is written to be quotable by a building surveyor, an insurer or a safety auditor before they ask us for the full document set.

What the pack contains

The right standard named for the project type — which standard actually governs your installation, and which does not.
Engineering documentation for structures and access platforms, where the project requires it.
Materials specifications — frame steel, bed, springs and surrounds as built for your venue.
Installation records for the equipment as installed.
A maintenance schedule, including the re-coating interval that the bed guarantee depends on.

It is the same style of documentation package we have supplied for venues ranging from the Australian Open to national training centres.

The standards, stated accurately

AS 4989:2015 — Trampolines: safety aspects. Guidance for domestic trampolines: structural integrity, spring and mat performance, padding coverage, entrapment prevention and labelling. It does not apply to trampoline parks. Our residential kits are built with the safety aspects of domestic use in mind.

AS 5159.1:2018 — Trampoline park facilities: safety requirements and test methods. The standard for commercial trampoline park facilities: court layout, impact attenuation, netting, signage and the related test methods. Commercial projects are designed for the venue with AS 5159.1 in mind from the first drawings, then documented in a project compliance pack.

Adam Richards has contributed to Australian standards development, including representing the Australian Industry Group in that work.

What this is not — read this before you cite us

Where engaged for a venue, Adam Richards may issue a written opinion, as a competent person, on whether the installed equipment and layout meet the intent of the standard for that site.

That is not product certification. We do not describe our trampolines as “certified to AS 5159.1”, and no document we issue should be read or quoted as doing so. If you need a certification, that is a different instrument from a different party — tell us and we will say so plainly rather than let a compliance pack be mistaken for one.

Equally, engineering documentation for structures and access platforms is not product certification either. It documents the structure, not a standards conformity mark on the equipment.

Commercial Use Guarantee — the terms

The Commercial Use Guarantee covers equipment used in any non-residential setting — including but not limited to schools, clubs, gymnastics and training venues, therapy and institutional settings, and commercial trampoline venues.

5 years — rubber surrounds and springs.
8 years — bounce bed, for approved gymnastics venues (including school and club gymnasiums) that enforce a no-shoes, no-jewellery, gymnastics-attire policy.
4 years — bounce bed, for all other venues.
Annual re-coating is a strict condition of the bed guarantee.

Which bed term applies is determined by the venue policy actually enforced, not by the type of organisation. So a school or club gymnasium that runs the gymnastics policy gets 8 years; one that does not gets 4. The split is behavioural, not categorical.

Any deviation from the approved venue policies or the maintenance requirements voids the bed guarantee. The residential exclusions apply equally — and our goods come with consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. This guarantee is in addition to those rights.

Requesting the full pack

The full pack is issued per project, because the standard that applies and the engineering required both depend on the venue. Tell us the venue type, the floor area and who is asking for the documentation (surveyor, insurer, auditor) and we will scope it.
