When Standards Australia drafted the rules for trampolines, they asked the people who’d been making them since 1949. Click any standard below to see what it covers and what it means for your venue.
AS 4989:2015 Trampolines — Safety aspects
Guidance for domestic trampolines — structural integrity, spring and mat performance, padding coverage, entrapment prevention and labelling. It does not apply to trampoline parks (those are AS 5159.1).
Our residential kits are built with the safety aspects of domestic use in mind. Adam Richards has contributed to Australian standards development (including representing the Australian Industry Group in that work). Ask us if you need the right standard named for your project type.
AS 5159.1:2018 Trampoline park facilities — Safety requirements & test methods
The standard for commercial trampoline park facilities — court layout, impact attenuation, netting, signage and related test methods. Where engaged for a venue, Adam Richards may issue a written opinion as a competent person on whether the installed equipment and layout meet the intent of the standard for that site.
That is not product certification, and we do not describe trampolines as “certified to AS 5159.1”. Commercial projects are designed for the venue with AS 5159.1 in mind from the first drawings, then documented in a project compliance pack for your surveyor, insurer and safety auditor.
Site packs Engineering, documentation & handover
Beyond naming the right standard for the project type, every commercial project can ship with its own compliance pack: engineering documentation for structures and access platforms where required, materials specifications, installation records and a maintenance schedule — the paperwork your building surveyor, insurer and safety auditor will ask for.
Engineering documentation for structures/access is not the same as product certification to AS 5159.1. It’s the same style of documentation package we’ve supplied for venues from the Australian Open to national training centres.
